Jason Jones begins his eighth season with the OBU Lady Tigers. His responsibilities include recruiting, post play and day-to-day office operations. Jones has coached at all levels and had success everywhere. Prior to coming to Ouachita, he served as an assistant in the Sheridan (Ark.) Public Schools.

Jones has specialized in coaching post players and has had the privilege of coaching three All-American post players in Delmonica DeHorney (University of Arkansas), Kathy Comeaux (Henderson State University) and Caroline Boclair (Ouachita Baptist University.)

Jones began his coaching career at the University of Arkansas as an undergraduate. He was on head coach John Sutherland’s staff as a student-assistant coach. After spending two years as a student assistant, Jones was promoted to the graduate assistant position. While Jones was at Arkansas, the Lady Razorbacks won a Southwest Conference regular-season championship, a SWC Tournament Championship and made a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. The Lady Razorbacks also set a school record for wins in a season by finishing 28-3 in 1991. Jones left in 1993 to accept an assistant coach position at Henderson State University. While coaching at HSU, the Lady Reddies won their first NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference Championship. After spending one season at Henderson State, Jones was named interim head coach at Hendrix College, a NCAA Division III School in Conway, Ark.

Shortly after his arrival in the fall of 1994, Jones realized he would be playing the season with only eight players and none over 5-foot-9. However, Jones’ team finished the season 16-9 (10-4) and also handed out a couple of losses to NCAA Div. II schools. Jones was the youngest head coach in the NCAA at only 24.

Jones, 36, is married to Rebecca (Roe) Jones. Rebecca is a 1996 graduate of Ouachita and now serves her alma mater as a Major Gifts Development Officer .  The couple have two sons: Anderson, 3, and Sullivan, 1.
