BOLIVAR, Mo.- The Ouachita men's tennis team traveled to Bolivar, Missouri over the weekend, participating in the ITA Regional Championships in both individual and doubles play. The Tigers all performed well, but most impressive was
Kenny Brasil, who walked away as the champion in singles play.
Marko Boscovic was the number one seed in singles play, advancing to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Southwest Baptist's Kristof Kinal by a score of 7-6, 6-4. Brasil entered the individual championships as the number four seed, sweeping his matches and taking the final by a score of 6-4,6-7,6-4 over Sergio De Vichez of Northwest Missouri State.
Marvin Muller entered singles play as the number 10 seed in the 64 player field, but fell in his third match by a score of 7-6, 6-1 to Rafael Bugiga of Northwest Missouri State. Riccardo Bassani claimed the 15 seed in the tournament, but fell in the first round by a score of 6-3,6-4.
Ouachita's
Vitor Oliveira started the tournament off with a win, but finalist De Vichez proved to be too strong, eliminating Oliveira in his second match by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Teodor Anghel saw a pretty similar story, after advancing past his first round match, but falling in his second match by a score of 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, the Tigers competed admirably, but were unable to send a team past the second round. The team of Boscovic and Oliveira were defeated in the second round by a score of 2-6, 7-6, 10-8. Brasil and Bassani suffered a first round loss by a score of 6-4, 6-1, while the Tigers' team of Anghel and Muller fell in the second round to Northwest Missouri's De Vichez and Altmires.
Following his win at the Regional Championships, Brasil will travel to the Small College National Championships in Mobile, Alabama, which will take place on October 11-14.
