Tigers Fall in Extra Innings. Finish Second in GAC Tournament

Box Score ENID, Okla.- Following a cinderellaesque run through the Great American Conference Tournament, the Ouachita Tigers baseball team ended up falling short in the game that mattered most. The Tigers and the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas went 11 innings, before SAU's Jason Dahl hit a walk-off home run over the right field wall. Ouachita ended up falling by a score of 4-3, but it was a game that could have gone either way.

The Tigers, who were projected to finish sixth in the conference during the pre-season poll, captured second place in the tournament due to a four game winning streak, which included victories over Henderson State, Arkansas Tech, Southeastern Oklahoma and Southern Arkansas.

In the championship game, Ouachita's Josh Everett got the start, putting in five innings and holding Southern Arkansas to four hits and two runs. Davis Ward came in to relieve Everett, eventually giving up the winning run to Dahl, but still posted an impressive outing, throwing 5.1 innings and holding the Muleriders to four hits and two runs as well.

Southern Arkansas' Justin Thomas took the win, putting in 5.2 innings of work and holding the Tigers hitless. Janson Carr started the game for SAU, but was pulled after giving up six hits and three runs to the Tigers in just 2.1 innings on the mound.

Brock Green recorded all three of Ouachita's RBI's in the game en route to a 2-of-5 performance from the plate. Keegan Ghidotti also finished with a multi-hit game, finishing 2-of-4 from the plate.

All of Ouachita's three runs came during the first three innings of the game, as they took an early lead and looked to hold on to it. Southern Arkansas had different plans though, as Dahl hit a double down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and then went on to hit the game-winner.

Ouachita finishes with an overall record of 30-26 following the loss, including a 12-12 mark in conference play in head coach Jeremy Haworth's first season.
