Tigers Suffer Heartbreaking Loss in First Game of GAC Tournament Despite Strong Pitching Performance From Westover

Box Score ENID, Okla.- In their first game of the Great American Conference Tournament, the No.5 seeded Ouachita Tigers baseball team ended up in a pitching duel with the No. 2 seeded Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma. Ouachita was only able to come up with two hits in the game, while the Savage Storm were limited to four hits of their own in a 1-0 decision for Southeastern Oklahoma.

Ouachita's Ryan Westover posted a valiant performance, throwing eight innings and holding Southeastern to their four hits and one run. He recorded six strikeouts in the game and only gave up one walk. Sadly though, his performance was not enough, as Southeastern's Brandon Marris was slightly better, holding Ouachita to no runs and just two hits en route to a victory for the Savage Storm.

Ouachita's Duncan Collins and Clayton Brandt were the only players to record hits in the game, while Southeastern Oklahoma's Blake Gentry registered the only run batted in of the game, knocking Keith Price across home plate in the third inning.

Ouachita may be down, but they are not out yet, as the tournament is double-elimination. The Tigers will look to rebound from their loss on Saturday at noon, when they face off against No. 6 seeded Henderson State in Enid. Henderson State lost in their first round game to No. 1 seeded Southern Arkansas by a score of 7-6, when Southern Arkansas posted four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
