ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Gateway Grizzlies, a professional baseball team and a member of the Frontier League, have announced the signing of former Ouachita baseball player
Zac Treece to a contract. Treece received a call just two hours after his graduation from Ouachita informing him of a tryout in St. Louis, Missouri the following day. Treece attended the tryouts and impressed the Grizzlies enough to sign him to his first professional baseball contract.
"This is a great opportunity for Zac." said Head Coach
Jeremy Haworth. "This is another step closer to where he wants to be and I know that his talent and competitiveness will allow him to be succesful at the next level of competition."
Treece was a four year letterman for the Tigers. During the 2012 season he finished with a team-high ERA of just 1.75 while registering 56.2 innings pitched. He recorded 64 strikeouts during his time on the mound and finished with a 6-2 record while also recording six saves.
The Hot Springs, Arkansas native will make his debut for the team on May 16 in an early season exhibition game. The regular season will begin shortly after, on May 18.
Treece is not the only former Tiger on the Grizzlies roster, as he joins former teammate
Kolby Moore.
