Amber Northam joins the Ouachita Baptist University athletic training staff this year.

Northam came to Arkadelphia, Ark., from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas where she spent three years as an assistant athletic trainer.  Northam worked predominately with soccer and softball and concluded her time with ASU at the Division II National Softball tournament with a fifth-place finish.  She was also an instructor in ASU’s CAATE accredited athletic training education program.

No stranger to Division II athletics as prior to moving to Texas, she worked at San Fransisco State, serving as a staff athletic trainer for two years.  Before her experience there, she was an athletic trainer at Chula Vista High in San Diego, Calif. and at Point Loma Nazarene University. She also has experience as a physical therapy aide in San Diego.

Northam received her bachelor's degree from Point Loma Nazerene and a master's degree in athletic training from San Jose State. She is nationally certified and state licensed in athletic training.  Northam grew up in San Diego where her family remains.

Athletics is in the Northam family. Her father Jack, is in his third year as the head baseball coach at Point Loma Nazarene University after being on staff for 18 years.  Her older brother, J.J. started at second base for the University of Arizona Wildcat baseball team for three years before staying on to coach for five years.  After leaving the University of Arizona, J.J. coached at Catalina Foothills High in Tucson, Ariz. for eight years.  He now enjoys coaching his son and daughter in baseball, football and softball.

Northam’s parents are avid hikers, with Mount Whitney, Calif., and the Eastern Sierra’s being their obsession.  Her younger brother, Curtis loves the ocean and rock climbing, and frequently does both as he still lives in San Diego.
